McQueeney VFD Gets Go Ahead From County for New Fire Station

The McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department is looking to build a new fire station at the corner of FM 725 and Lakeview Trail. Dalondo Moultrie – The Seguin Gazette

Members of a local volunteer fire department are ready to start a capital campaign in earnest to build a new fire station after getting the property for their new station approved by the county.

The Guadalupe County Commissioners on Tuesday unanimously agreed on final approval of a subdivision plat where the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department plans to put its new building, Chief Tim Bogisch said.

“This action allows the fire department to close on the purchase of the land for our new fire station,” he said. “Once that is done, hopefully in the next couple of weeks, we can move on to a major fund-raising effort.”

The land is a 3.25-acre tract at the intersection of FM 725 and Lakeview Trail in McQueeney. Commissioners preliminarily approved the plat in February and gave it a more official go-ahead Tuesday.

Bogisch has said the department needs a new fire station at a new location for several reasons.

The current station, located on less than an acre of land, lacks adequate space, has no room for expansion and is located in a heavy traffic area at the intersection of FM 725 and FM 78, he said.

Traffic conditions are beginning to make it more difficult for fire department personnel to effectively respond to calls, Bogisch said.

The department is planning to build a new station that is large enough to house all of the department’s equipment, he said. Fire trucks will fit comfortably in the new facility as it is currently planned with five drive-through bays for vehicles.

An administration/living quarters side of the station will have a large training/meeting room, administrative offices, a large kitchen and four bedrooms for personnel to stay at the station overnight, the chief said.

Construction of a new building also will provide for future growth, Bogisch said. The improvements will help the department better serve the community, he said.

Schertz Ladder Truck Involved in Accident

At approximately 3:00 A.M. Thursday morning Roadrunner Towing was dispatched to I35 and FM 1103 for a single tractor trailer accident. While working the scene, Schertz Fire Department positioned a ladder truck to block the lanes and protect working personnel. The ladder truck was struck by a second tractor trailer truck that had failed to move over for emergency vehicles. We are all thankful that there were no injuries. WE ASK EVERYONE TO SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER FOR FIRST RESPONDERS, INCLUDING POLICE, FIRE, EMS, TOW TRUCKS AND TXDOT WORKERS. PLEASE GIVE THEM ROOM TO WORK AND THE CHANCE TO GO HOME ALIVE!

McQueeney VFD Finalizes Purchase of Land for New Fire Station

The McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department is in the final stages of purchasing 3 acres of land at the intersection of FM 725 and Lakeview Trail as the location for our proposed new fire station.  This Public Notice sign is required under the Guadalupe County Subdivision rules and it does NOT mean a new housing subdivision is being proposed for this location.

We are excited about our plans to grow the fire department and improve the level of service we provide to the community.

Thank you,
Tim Bogisch, Chief

McQueeney VFD Responds to Fire in Altwein Lane Estates

At  approximately 5:30 PM Sunday Nov. 25, the McQueeney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported kitchen fire at 124 Rosemary Loop.  The initial report from dispatch indicated the fire started on the stove, all occupants were out of the residence and the occupants had turned off the electric power to the structure.  The fire department arrived within 6 minutes of dispatch to find a doublewide manufactured home with smoke venting from the roof and front door.  Due to the amount of smoke seen, we requested an engine from Lake Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department.  An initial attack hose line was deployed through the front door and the fire was located in the kitchen and quickly extinguished while other personnel searched the remainder of the residence to confirm that no one was still inside the house.  The fire was was under control within 30 minutes and the fire department remained on scene until 7:30 PM to confirm the fire was fully extinguished and to assist the fire marshal with his investigation.  One engine, one rescue truck and 9 firefighters from McQueeney and one engine, one rescue truck and firefighters from Lake Dunlap operated under the command of Chief Tim Bogisch.  In addition to Lake Dunlap, we would like to thank GCSO deputies and Seguin Fire Marshal Greg Dreiss for their assistance.
